  17. <p>     Crime fighter by day, composer and pianist by night. When
  18. Law & Order's Michael Moriarty slips off the suspenders he
  19. sports as prosecutor Ben Stone, he slips into a melody-making
  20. alter ego. "Music was my first interest; I listened to it in the
  21. bassinet," says Moriarty, a regular performer on the New York
  22. City jazz-club circuit. Later this month, Manhattanites will
  23. sample Moriarty's talents as a classical composer when he
  24. conducts his Symphony for Strings Orchestra at an annual music
  25. festival.
